WHAT IS IT?
EDUCATE OUR CHILDREN is a program that provides financial support to children who attend local schools and whose families have limited resources to pay school-related expenses. It’s SIMPLE, because all you have to do is say “yes” to make a difference in a child’s life. It’s IMPORTANT, because this program provides direct scholarships to help relieve some of the stress that disadvantaged families may experience regarding the cost of school tuition and books. And it’s FUN, because knowing that we’re doing something good for someone else is a wonderful experience!
How Does It Work?
This is how simple it is… When you stay at a Select Small Hotels member property, at the moment of checking out, you will be asked if you’d like to donate to participate in Educate our Children. All funds raised by the hotels will be matched by Select Small Hotels and allocated to fund scholarships to cover the cost of tuition and books for qualified students who attend school in the same community where our SELECT SMALL HOTELS property is located.
Who benefits from it?
Throughout Panama there are too many families who struggle to pay their monthly bills. While the government mandates a free, public education through grade six for all children, school-related fees and expenses are a reality. Most schools have scholarship programs to identify those children most in need of financial support and to provide them with financial assistance. EDUCATE OUR CHILDREN works hand-in-hand with the schools, within their existing scholarship programs, because we believe the teachers and school administrators know best which students will benefit from the program.
Why are we doing it?
At SELECT SMALL HOTELS we believe all businesses have a social responsibility to contribute in a positive way to the communities in which we live and work. We want to help out, and to give something back to our neighbors and the people who do business with us all year long.
OUR MISSION is to support the educational system in Panama by collaborating with local schools and their staff to identify those children most in need of financial assistance, and to promote a means of providing that assistance through scholarships.
OUR GOAL is to direct and match 100% of the contributed funds to the designated schools for the benefit of their students who have been identified as needing financial support to meet school-related expenses.
